Rep. Ukodhiko bags NIDSUG Excellence Award

MEMBER representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, on Thursday, was honored with an Excellence Award by the Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG) led by Comrade Scott Ogunseri for his support to the students’ community.

The award ceremony took place during the NIDSUG’s Enhancing Student’s Participation in Politics and Leadership Programme that was held at the Dennis Osabebay University, Asaba, Delta State.

In his speech, Rep. Ukodhiko represented by former President of Student Union Government of the University of Benin, Comr. Eniwake Orogun, said, the award was very significant as it would further spur him in doing more to ensure students of Isoko origin in particular enjoy quality education which remained his top priority.

He stated that, he enrolled 400 students of Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Areas for the 2024 Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) just as he has been paying the school fees of many indigent students of the Constituency.

The House of Representatives member revealed he has initiated another scheme to reward academic excellence for the highest scorers in the 2024 UTME as they would be offered full tuition fee scholarships in private universities in the country .

The Isoko Federal lawmaker said since he was sworn-in as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, he has sponsored five bills including the bill for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture, and the University Teaching Hospital which recently passed through second reading.

As a way alleviating the suffering of the hardship been faced, Hon Ukodhiko said he has commenced a monthly revolving five thousand Naira financial assistance scheme for the indigent and less-privileged persons of his Constituency, saying, the first batch of payment for February have been made to 240 persons.

He stated, he has also lined-up a series of empowerment programmes that are aimed at reducing unemployment in Isoko-nation as the programmes would see to the training of many youths and women in various crafts, businesses just as they would be empowered afterwards

Hon Jonathan Ukodhiko who is the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, assured he would continue to do more for his constituents, especially the students of Isoko, adding that, the interests of the people comes first in his daily engagements at the National Assembly.
